Celebrate National Day of the Horse this Thursday, December 13th!

National Day of the Horse was first recognized by Congress in 2004 to honor the animal that has helped shape the United States.

The Resolution for National Day of the Horse calls upon all people of the United States to recognize the importance of horses to the security, economy, recreation, and heritage of the United States; and to observe the day with appropriate programs and activities! Here are some activities to help you celebrate National Day of the Horse:

Read a horse related book

Watch a horse related movie

  • Seabiscuit
  • National Velvet
  • Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
  • Secretariat
  • War Horse
  • Hidalgo
  • Some of your favorite horse books have also been made into movies! (Black Beauty, The Black Stallion, My Friend Flicka, and more)

Make a horse craft

And of course, if you have your own horse!

  • Make a homemade horse treat.
  • Give them a bath and brushing.
  • Make a new nameplate for their stall.
  • Practice a new skill together.
  • Hug your horse and thank them for being your friend!
